English Department

The English Department at Keswick High School is focused on the strength and possibility of all learners. We are dedicated to using a skills-based approach to improve and challenge the literacy skills of every student—helping them become confident, critical, and creative communicators.

Our department values curiosity, open classroom discussion, and collaboration. We encourage students to share diverse perspectives, make thoughtful decisions with peers, and take responsibility for their own learning. Every day, our classrooms invite exploration, reflection, and growth as students work toward achieving their fullest literacy potential.

Each English course at KHS is designed around guiding questions that are relevant to students’ grade levels and lived experiences. This approach ensures that learning remains engaging, purposeful, and developmentally appropriate. As students progress through each grade, they build on prior skills—enhancing their ability to read, write, think, and communicate with increasing depth and sophistication.
