The KHS Music Department offers something for everyone, welcoming students of all abilities, backgrounds, and interests. Our programs include Instrumental Music, Repertoire (after-school band), Vocal Music, and Guitar, giving students opportunities to explore music through performance, theory, research, and listening. Whether you’re brand new to music or already experienced, you are encouraged to try new styles, build your skills, and discover the joy of making music—no experience required!
Our mission is: “Finding our voice in joy, healing, resistance, and community.”
Music at KHS is a place to belong. Our classrooms and ensembles foster a supportive, inclusive environment where students across grades collaborate, encourage one another, and grow together. We believe deeply in the power of sharing music and in the idea that every student has a voice to share. For this reason, we offer many performance opportunities—all of them non-competitive and focused on community and connection.
Students in our program participate in exciting performances both inside and outside of school. These include the Remembrance Day Assembly, the Winter and Spring Concerts, the KHS Fine Arts Showcases, the KHS Coffee House, Graduation, and a variety of community events. We also collaborate with other local schools, expanding our musical community and providing unique learning opportunities. “Repertoire” runs throughout the school year, offering students the chance to make friends, take part in field trips, and learn from inspiring guest musicians. Extracurricular ensembles—offered in addition to Repertoire—may include Jazz Band (“Big Cat Big Band”), Guitar Club, Brass Band (“Wick~ed Brass Band”), and Vocal Club. Our department is supported by the KHS Music Council, a dedicated group of student leaders who organize fundraisers, socials, and community-building events including the Krispy Kreme fundraiser and the KHS Coffee House.
At KHS, the Music Department is more than a program—it’s a community where creativity, collaboration, and performance bring students together, inspiring them to reach their full potential.
