Music Department

The KHS Music Department offers something for everyone, welcoming students of all abilities and interests. Our programs include Instrumental Music, Repertoire (after-school band), Vocal Music, and Guitar, providing opportunities to explore music through performance, theory, and listening activities. Students are encouraged to try new styles, develop their skills, and discover the joy of making music—no experience is required!

Music at KHS is a place to belong. Our classrooms and ensembles foster a supportive and inclusive environment where students across grades encourage and learn from one another. Repertoire runs throughout the school year, offering students the chance to meet friends, participate in field trips, and learn from guest musicians. The department is also supported by the KHS Music Council, a group of student leaders who organize fundraisers, socials, and events such as Krispy Kreme fundraisers, the KHS Coffee House, the Music Fall Potluck, and Holiday Movie Night.

Our department provides exciting performance opportunities, both in and out of school. Students perform at school events like Remembrance Day Assemblies, the KHS Fine Arts Winter and Spring Showcases, the KHS Coffee House, and Graduation, as well as at community events including the Barrie Jazz and Blues Festival, Keswick and Sutton Santa Claus Parades, and professional sports games with the Toronto Argonauts and Toronto Marlies. KHS ensembles consistently excel at Regional Music Festivals, earning top marks and invitations to Music Fest Canada Nationals.

At KHS, the Music Department is more than a program—it’s a community where creativity, collaboration, and performance bring students together, inspiring them to reach their full potential.
